Bio:

Nancy McGinley received her Masters degree in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness from the California Institute of Integral Studies. She received her Bachelor's degree from Dominican College in San Rafael with an inter-disciplinary major of Myth, Meaning and Culture. Nancy is the director of Dovetail Coalition, a non-profit organization focused on building ecologically, socially and economically sustainable communities. Among the projects in the Bay Area sponsored by Dovetail was a year-long series of monthly educational events featuring presenters, slide shows and workshops addressing various aspects of sustainability, In August of 1998, when the last of Nancy's four children were grown and on their own, she put her belongings in storage, left the Bay Area after having lived there for over thirty years and set out in her van on an inner and outer journey. The following December she landed in Ashland, Oregon where she promptly established herself and Dovetail Coalition as well. In the last seven months Dovetail has received Oregon status, has formed a new board, and has received grant money to fund a now thriving community gardens network, and Dovetail is involved with working toward creating a permaculture/co-housing project. Nancy is also working with the Ashland Conservation Commission to organize a Natural Step workshop intended for local businesses and some of the heads of the departments of city and county government. Dovetail is continuing to put on a series of educational events on sustainability in Ashland. Most recently, Nancy spear-headed and organized a conference, Catalyst 2000: Turning Challenge Into Opportunity, held in Ashland at Southern Oregon University, with Dovetail as one of the co-sponsoring organizations. The conference was focused on: *Cultivating resilient communities *Preparing for year 2000 and beyond *Envisioning a sustainable future. The conference featured speakers, a panel discussion, and twelve workshops covering subjects as diverse as Permaculture; The Global Economy; Exploring Cultural Assumptions; Food Storage; Living on the Edge of Evolution; Co-housing; Homeopathic Herbal Emergency Medical Treatment; Buddhism, Diversity and Transformation; Origins of Y2K and What it Tells Us About Our Culture; Y2K Contingency Planning in the Rogue Valley; and more.
