Chera van Burg is a poet and musician who combines vocals, spoken word, Sanskrit chants, and Eastern instruments with electronics to create transformative sound environments. With other musicians, she has performed worldwide at events such as the International Visual Music Festival and the International Festival of Contemporary Art, the Berlin New Music concert series, the Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts and various programs and venues across the USA. One review said her work, "produced sounds that were mystical, exotic and suggestive"; another stated, "her poetry and voice create seductive images that pulse into the core of existence along the edge of the contemporary world". Chera is also a psychologist whose interest in the evolution of consciousness and imaginal states led her to become a film maker whose films explore how our psychological and aesthetic development of consciousness affect our relationship to the environment, technology, culture and spirit. Her films reverie (1998) and Thresholds (1999) have been shown at several conferences and workshops. |
