Gil is founder and CEO of Natural Logic, a software and strategy firm that helps companies and communities prosper by embedding the laws of nature at the heart of enterprise. "Nature's ecosystems have spent 3.85 billion years building efficient, complex, adaptive, resilient systems," Friend observes. "Why should companies reinvent the wheel, when the R&D has already been done?" Gil is a systems ecologist (Antioch University) by training, who reports his key influences have included "Bateson, Beer and Bucky (Fuller)." He was co-director of Institute for Local Self-Reliance, a noted "think and do tank," and a founding board member of both internet pioneer Institute for Global Communications and the Sustainable Business Alliance. Gil works closely with Sweden's "Natural Step" management system.
