Ronan Hallowell, a 28 yr old Bay Area DJ, writer and speaker, will share his experiences in alternative media ranging from his days as Program Director of a prominent college radio station in Boston to his extensive experience in the underground rave culture and media rituals like the Techno Cosmic Mass which he helped to found in Oakland with theologian Matthew Fox in 1996. Ronan Hallowell, is a DJ, writer and speaker. He received a B.A. in Economics from Boston College in 1993 and an M.A. in Philosophy and Religion from the California Institute of Integral Studies in 1997. He has lectured and DJ'd at conferences on technology, ecology and culture around the U.S. and in Canada and Europe. Ronan has been involved with underground rave culture since 1992 and was Program Director and General Manager of WZBC-FM, a prominent alternative radio station in Boston. He has lectured and taught on the topic of youth, spirituality and postmodern culture at Naropa University Oakland and the Power of Hope youth conference at the Whidbey Institute outside of Seattle. His work over the past several years has concentrated on intercultural dialogue in relationship to the Native American Sun Dance ceremony. Currently Ronan is working to apply principles of Native Wisdom and the Perennial Philosophy to the development of media and technology that supports sustainable cultural transformation. He has worked in the San Francisco Bay Area Internet start-up space and is co-founder of Re-flect Learning, a non-profit organization that is developing small group learning modalities that leverage the power of immersive media environments. |
