Maria Anna Jankowska

 

Maria Anna Jankowska is an associate network resources librarian at the University of Idaho Library in Moscow, Idaho. She holds a Ph.D. in economics from Poland and a library degree from the University of California at Berkeley. Maria is a founding editor of the professional journal, Electronic Green Journal available on the Internet at: http://egj.lib.uidaho.edu/index.html

 

The Journal serves as an educational environmental resource, publishing both practical and scholarly articles on international topics, reviews, editorial comments, and printed and electronic environmental sources. The Journal has more than 800 regular worldwide subscribers and more than 30,000 total hits/accesses per month. This publication, distributed without charge through the World Wide Web is supported by members of the Task Force on the Environment, one of the Social Responsibility Round Tables in the American Library Association. Maria, as a chair of this group in 1993-1995 and since 1998 until present, is working on the program Libraries Making Earth Day Every Day.

 

Should Librarians Feel Responsible for Environmental Information Quality?

Environmental information is very broad in its scope. It could be presented from many points of view, relayed on numerous sources and influence people's perception in various ways. By presenting the history and role of the Electronic Green Journal and the Task Force on the Environment in the American Library Association Maria attempts to answer the question--- should librarians feel responsible for the quality of environmental information?
