A former nationally syndicated columnist, he is author, coauthor, or editor of more than a dozen books, including The E-Factor: The Bottom-Line Approach to Environmentally Responsible Business (Random House, 1993), on how companies are responding to environmental challenges in positive and profitable ways, Beyond the Bottom Line: Putting Social Responsibility to Work for Your Business and the World (Simon & Schuster, 1994), about the profit and potential of socially responsible business practices; and The Green Consumer (Penguin Books, 1990, rev. 1993), a consumer guide to the environmental marketplace. Makower is also author of Good, Green Jobs, a guide to job creation and retention through business environmental initiatives, published in collaboration with the California Department of Conservation. Makower is a regular commentator on environmental topics for "Marketplace," a nightly national business program on public radio, and appears regularly in both broadcast and print media. He lectures frequently to companies, industry groups, and business schools throughout North America, as well as in Europe, Asia, and South America.
