Jim Slama

Jim Slama is the president of Sustain, a public interest group that uses leading edge communications strategies to win environmental victories. In 1998, Slama and Sustain developed the Campaign to Keep "Organic" Organic, a national multi-media effort that played a key role in convincing the USDA to disallow food which was irradiated, genetically engineered, or grown in sewage sludge to be labeled organic. Sustain is currently working on a national campaign to force the FDA to better regulate genetically engineered food. The campaign is using national advertising, grassroots outreach, public relations, and the website: www.keepnatural.org to inspire consumers to comment. Slama is also publisher of Conscious Choice: The Journal of Ecology and Natural Living. It has been nominated four times for Utne Reader's Best of the Alternative Press Award.
