Twyla Wilson is the founder of Natural Commerce Network. She is also a visionary entrepreneur and global eBusiness Strategist, who brought up her first commercial website in 1993. In her role as Director of Strategic Alliance Development at marchFIRST, formerly USWeb/CKS, Twyla has worked with Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, 3Com, SUN, MCIWolrdCom, BroadVision, ATG, BEA, Macromedia, Personify and several hundred other industry heavy-weights. From this perspective, she has watched the development of a technology infrastructure, which is rapidly becoming the foundation of a world wide digital economy with the potential to create unprecedented positive change (or nightmarish impoverishment). With the new millennium looming, Twyla saw the need to form an Enlightened Trade Organization, which subsequently lead to the founding of Natural Commerce Network. This was the direct result of a conversation plausiting the need to unify a heart focused on right livelihood, a desire for harmony, a love of diversity and a reverence for the natural world bound by an education and the mental discipline of a professional high-tech executive. Stepping up to the challenge proved to be a worthy odyssey as she formulated a team of like-situationed professionals, who together set about grokking solutions as awe inspiring as the question. Today, we think we know the approximate shape of the territory and the resources it will take to build the map and the infrastructures required to get there. This is a complex issue that cannot be resolved with the same level of thinking and complacency that brought us to this place of alienation and futility. In Twyla's view of the world global technologies when deftly applied have the capacity empower, inspire and sustain local, indigenes cultures by making humanitarian and natural capital an integral part of a world-wide economy. Her favorite movie quote which she believes beautifully illustrates this point is from a scene in the Empire Strikes Back where Leah warns Darth Vader 'the more you tighten your grip the faster they will slip through your fingers!' This, Twyla believes is modern spin on Margaret Mead's famous observation: "Never doubt that a small group of concerned citizens can make a difference. Indeed, it is the only thing that has." twylawilson@yahoo.com
