Zakary Zide is a cowboy, philosopher, trickster, and artist. He has spent the better part of his life sharing with others his passion for creativity and the earth. With a Masters in Environmental Philosophy and Art, he has participated in expeditions across the United States, Central America, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Hawaii, studying the essense of community, nature and creativity, i.e., making music, sculpture, laughing lots and getting really dirty. With diverse interests and experiences, Zak is currently Manager of the community-based, Wild City! environmental education outreach program, at the California Acadmey of Sciences in San Francisco. As an artist, Zakary works in a variety of media: glass, steel, wood, clay, photography, video, audio, lighting as well as found urban and natural objects. As founding member of, Have Earth Will Art, he has worked with people of all ages from a variety of ethnic, economic and educational backgrounds to interactively explore human relationship with the earth while investigating the intersection of ritual, ceremony, creativity and sustainability vis-a-vis environmental art, education and ecological restoration. Zak has also worked with Just Think, a San Francisco non-profit that deals with media literacy, to create a program entitled: Art. Ecology & Technology. As board member, program developer and artist-in-residence of the Epic Arts Foundation, Zak has worked throughout the bay area to promote creative expression & community development through the arts. He has led numerous environmental art workshops at regional and national conferences, including a summer institute on eco-art and identity at the Interlocken Experiential Education Center in New Hampshire. Mr. Zide enjoys working closely with others just as the wind delights in playing with leaves. |
