Mark Graham
Mark Graham is an Internet pioneer who has made significant contributions throughout his career to the development of online communities and the software systems that support them. Mark is currently VP of Technology for iVillage.com, the leading online service for women. Prior to joining iVillage Mark was president of Whole Earth Networks and director of business development and technology for The WELL, where he led the development of the first web-based messageboard software. In the late 1980s Mark founded one of the first Internet consulting and services companies, Pandora Systems where he introduced and developed Internet-based products and services for companies such as American Online, Women.com, Pacific Bell, and Sovam Teleport. In 1984 he co-founded one of the first online communities for progressive social change, PeaceNet. He then went on to co-found the Institute for Global Communications (igc.org) and the Association for Progressive Communications (apc.org), which has member offices in more than 30 countries around the world. Mark's introduction to computer-mediated communications and networks began in 1980 when he was a member of the technical staff at the Air Force Data Services Center while stationed at the Pentagon, in Washington DC. Mark has presented and evangelized about the promise, power, and opportunities of online communities at many industry conferences throughout the world. |
